For the last two decades, Jhulan Goswami’s name has been synonymous with women’s cricket. On Saturday, Lord’s celebrated with zest her final appearence in India jersey during the third ODI against England.

Emotions ran high during the team huddle prior to the start. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then brought Jhulan out with her for the toss. England team coach, Lisa Keightley, presented Jhulan with a shirt signed by the players.

She was presented with a guard of honour by the English players when she came out to bat. Perhaps overwhelmed by the occasion she departed for a first-ball duck. She finished with two for 30 from her 10 overs as India won by 16 runs to wrap up the series 3-0.

Back home, the Cricket Association of Bengal decided to name a stand at Eden Gardens after her.

India struggled after being put into bat, managing 169 in 45.4 overs. Mandhana scored 50 while Deepti Sharma was unbeaten on 68. In reply, England managed 153.

England’s last wicket pair had put on 35 runs before non-striker Charlie Dean was run out for 47 when Deepti Sharma found the batter out of her ground on her delivery stride. Dean was upset with the mode of dismissal.

Brief scores: India 169 in 45.4 (D. Sharma 68 n.o). England 153 in 43.3 (J. Goswami 2/30, Renuka Singh 4/29). India won by 16 runs.
