Discussions on the Asia Cup and World Cup are expected to dominate the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The meeting begins at 4.30pm.

One of the five points on the agenda is “formation of working group for the ICC World Cup 2023”. The dates and venues haven’t been made public yet though there is speculation that the tournament will begin on October 5 and the final will be held on November 19. The working group formation has been long overdue and is needed for the smooth conduct of the showpiece event.

The uncertainty over the Asia Cup venue, arising out of the hybrid model proposal from the Pakistan Cricket Board, and its probable effect on Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup could come up for discussion. As per the hybrid model, Pakistan will play four or five of their matches at home and the rest will be held at a neutral venue. While Pakistan wants it to take place in Dubai, India prefers Sri Lanka. PCB chairman Najam Sethi has already threatened to play their World Cup matches at a neutral venue.

The Women’s Premier League Committee and the Infrastructure Development & Subsidy Committee are to be added to the list of BCCI’s sub-committees.
