Deepti Sharma’s half-century goes in vain

Australia Women thrashed India Women by 54 runs in the fifth and final T20I at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday

Ashleigh Gardner hit an unbeaten 32-ball 66 and then took two for 20 with her off-breaks as Australia Women thrashed India Women by 54 runs in the fifth and final T20I at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Pacer Heather Graham took four wickets for just eight runs as India were bowled out for 142 in reply to Australia’s 196 for 4. The comprehensive victory was an icing on the cake for Australia as they won the series 4-1.

Australia were in trouble at 67/4. But Gardner and Grace Harris (64 not out off 35 balls) turned it around with their unbroken 129-run stand. During India’s reply, only Deepti Sharma (53) could come up with a meaningful contribution.

Brief scores: Australia Women 196/4 in 20 overs (A. Gardner 66 n.o., G. Harris 64 n.o.). India Women 142 in 20 overs (D. Sharma 53; A. Gardner 2/20, H. Graham 4/8). Australia Women won by 54 runs.
