Delhi Capitals have overcome quite a few odds this season to stay relevant in IPL 2022. Their latest challenge is to move out of a mid-table chaos to boost their chances of a spot in the play-offs. For that, they first need to overcome Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

Delhi have a great net run rate of 0.641 and if they manage to pick up a few wins in their remaining matches, Rishabh Pant’s team may just sneak into the top four at the end of the group phase.

They currently occupy the fifth spot with 10 points, but fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are on 12 points. RCB too are playing on Sunday (against Sunrisers Hyderabad), and if they lose, Delhi will have a good chance to enter the top four.

In Chennai, Delhi perhaps have a relatively easier opponent. Delhi have been batting well and Chennai have one of the weakest bowling attacks in this edition of the IPL. David Warner has been giving Delhi good starts and Rovman Powell has been muscling the sixes in the death overs. In between, there is the threat of Mitchell Marsh and Pant dominating the bowlers in the middle overs.

Prithvi Shaw didn’t play Delhi’s last game but is expected to be fit for Sunday’s match. If Shaw plays and manages to find his shots, Chennai would not know how to tackle Delhi’s batting.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a very inexperienced bowling department at his disposal. While the likes of Mukesh Choudhary and Maheesh Theekshana have been trying their best, there is simply not enough bite in the Chennai Super Kings’ bowling attack. Dwayne Bravo’s injury has made it worse for them.

Chennai’s batters though have had some good outings on and off.

If Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad can give them a good start, the likes of Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu may just be able to pose a challenge to Delhi’s impressive bowling attack, which boasts of Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav.
