David Warner has put the onus on Cricket Australia regarding the lifting of his lifetime captaincy ban, saying it is up to the Board to reach out to him first.
The left-handed opener was banned from captaincy for life for his role in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal.
Several former and current players, including Test skipper Pat Cummins, have called for Warner’s life ban to be lifted.
“That hasn’t really been brought to the table,” Warner was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
“As I’ve said plenty of times off the record, it’s upon the board to reach out to me and open their doors. Then I can sit down and have an honest conversation with them.”
Big Bash return
Warner, for the first time since 2013, will be playing in the Big Bash League (BBL). He has signed a two-year deal with Sydney Thunder.
With new T20 leagues in the UAE and South Africa threatening to lure players away from the Australian competition as their dates clash, Warner is being looked upon as a boost for the BBL.
“I’m really excited to get back to the Big Bash with the club where I started,” said Warner.
Thunder will need a new captain as Usman Khawaja has signed up with Brisbane Heat. Warner, however, thinks that he does not really need to be the official captain to play a leadership role in his BBL side. “I’ve got the experience, I’m a leader in the side anyway without having a title,” he said.
