The Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 meet is most likely to resume next month with its remaining matches to be held in the city.
The BCCI had postponed the tournament on January 10 after its group phase, owing to multiple Covid-19 cases within the teams. The knockout stage, which was then scheduled to be held in Pune, was put on hold.
However, the overall pandemic situation in the country having improved, the BCCI is optimistic of the competition’s resumption next month. Only the knockout round matches of the tournament remain.
“The Covid situation is better now compared to how it was in January. So in all probability, the knockout stage will begin from the first or third week of April.
“The remaining seven matches (four quarter finals, the semi-finals and the final) will be held across venues in Calcutta,” a Board source said.
Alongside Eden Gardens, Jadavpur University Salt Lake campus ground and the Videocon ground are among the venues in the city.
The Bengal U-19 team, which finished at the top in group D after winning four of the five matches with one draw, has already resumed training from February 22.They have had their training sessions primarily at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s indoor facilities as well as at the YMCA ground.
