A potential conflict of interest issue has been raised against Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly following his brother and former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s role in IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.

Sourav is the director of cricket at Capitals.

In a letter sent to BCCI ethics officer & ombudsman, Justice (retd) Vineet Saran, on Saturday by Sanjeev Gupta, former member of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, it has been alleged that “since Mr Snehasish Ganguly brother Mr Sourav Ganguly is occupying post of Director/Team Official of BCCI IPL Franchisee Delhi Capital,” it is a direct conflict of interest issue with the CAB president’s post.

On a possible conflict of interest situation, direct or indirect, the BCCI constitution says: “When the BCCI, a Member, the IPL or a Franchisee enter into contractual arrangements with entities in which the individual concerned or his/her relative, partner, or close associates has an interest. This is to include cases where family members, partners or close associates are in positions that may, or may be seen to compromise an individual’s participation, performance and discharge of roles.”

The role of an administrator “shall mean and include present & former Presidents, Vice Presidents, Honorary Secretaries, Honorary Treasurers, Honorary Joint Secretaries of the BCCI, past & present Presidents & Secretaries of Members Affiliated to the BCCI, a representative of a Member of the BCCI, and any person connected with the Governance & Management of the affairs of the BCCI or of its Committees.”

According to the constitution, the CAB president is a BCCI administrator, a position which is equated with BCCI president and others under BCCI Rules 38(4)(f) read with BCCI Rule 1(A)(a).

Snehasish didn’t respond to calls or text messages from The Telegraph.
