The gritty, enterprising second-wicket partnership between Dean Elgar and Keegan Petersen on the last session of Day III of the third and final Test in Cape Town had put the pressure right back on India.

The pressure seemed to get to captain Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and some of the other Indian players who lost their cool after an lbw decision against Elgar, given by on-field umpire Marais Erasmus, was overturned once the Proteas skipper took the review.

That was off the bowling of Ashwin. It did look dead plumb, but tracking showed the ball was going over the stumps, which saved Elgar. But the Indians were furious thereafter, venting their ire at the official broadcasters.

A livid Kohli walked up to the stumps and spoke into the mic, saying: “Focus on your team while they shine the ball. Not just the opposition... Trying to catch people all the time.”

Ashwin too joined in. “You should find better ways to win, SuperSport,” was the off spinner’s comment, referring to the official broadcasters. Another player was heard saying: “Whole country playing against 11 guys.”

The Indian team management, however, didn’t wish to read much into the matter, preferring to “move on” instead. “We saw it, you saw it. So we’ll leave that to the match referee (Andy Pycroft) to have a look.

“Just want to move on with the game now, having seen all,” bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said later.

“Besides, in a moment like this, people do say certain things as they are all trying their best... Just happens as emotions come into play sometimes…” Mhambrey added.

Reassuring their faith in the DRS that has been put in place, Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi too believes being under pressure has led to the Indians showing “too much emotion”.
