Cameron Green sustained a broken finger on Day 2 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Yet, he came out to bat on Wednesday and braving that discomfort, hit an unbeaten 51 in Australia’s massive first-innings total of 575 for 8 declared.

Green will be out of the third and final Test in Sydney beginning on January 4. However, he hopes to recover and be fully fit for the four-Test series in India that starts on February 9 in Nagpur.

“It obviously hurts not playing for Australia. I’ve played every game since I debuted, so it’s going to feel a bit weird watching Test cricket from home,” Green told cricket.com.au about missing the Sydney Test.

“But I’ll be absolutely rapt for whoever comes in and hopefully takes his opportunity. It’s a great environment to be a part of, so I’m definitely going to miss it.

“But I’m going to do as much as I can to get it right and try to go to India. A lot of people talk about the tour to India, how tough it is mentally and physically.

“It’s going to be a massive tour for us. We’re as best prepared as we’re ever going to be, so I’m looking forward to it and I hope to be fit by then,” the pacer all-rounder emphasised.

Green revealed that Australia ideally would have not sent him back into bat at all on the third day after Anrich Nortje broke his right index finger the previous evening.
