Wriddhiman Saha may join Tripura to pursue his future in domestic cricket.

Although nothing has been finalised yet, the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) has expressed interest in having Saha in the state’s senior squad as player-cum-mentor. Saha is learnt to have spoken to a heavyweight political leader in the state, who has also been a top official of the TCA till early this year.

According to a TCA official, the association will most likely be having further discussions on the matter with the former India wicketkeeper-batsman on Monday.

“Tripura came into the picture after this year’s IPL got over. Till then, Saha was having discussions with a few other states,” a source said.

“Tripura obviously appear quite keen to include him in their cricketing set-up, which they have told Saha as well. But the final call will be taken by Saha himself. And at the moment, he’s still undecided.

“He’ll be weighing the other offers too and will opt for the best,” the source said.

Saha, though, was unavailable for any comment. Sources close to the 37-year-old said he would be visiting his hometown Siliguri in the coming days.

There’s talk that Saha has also had discussions with Baroda and Gujarat state associations besides another state from the Northeast. However, before he signs on the dotted lines, Saha has to obtain the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which won’t be available before August.

Saha’s terms with the CAB became acrimonious ever since a senior official of the association questioned his commitment a few months back.
