Bengal, buoyed by all-round performances, routed Bihar by an innings and 204 runs to end their Ranji Trophy campaign on a winning note.

In the Group B match at Eden Gardens, pacers Mukesh Kumar and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal with the ball and Abhimanyu Easwaran with the bat were the standout performers.

Resuming their second innings at 32/1 on Sunday morning, Bihar collapsed with Mukesh (6/32) and Suraj (4/34) doing all the damage. Bihar were bundled out for just 112 to suffer a heavy loss.

Mukesh returned an impressive match haul of 10/50. Young Suraj was not far behind, finishing with eight wickets from the game.

Bihar had faltered in their first essay as well, managing only 95. Bengal replied with 411/5, riding Abhimanyu Easwaran’s unbeaten 200 and Abhishek Porel’s 56. In their second innings too, Bihar found the pair of Mukesh and Suraj hard to tackle.

Sakibul Gani top-scored for Bihar with 28.

The win gave Bengal seven points from the game, including a bonus point for the innings victory. Bengal, last season’s runners-up, thus finished with 19 points from seven games.

After the match, Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary, who is retiring from first-class cricket, was felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal.

Manoj, who has also played 15 international games for India, finished his first-class career with 10195 runs from 148 matches.
