A confident Bangladesh arrived in India on Sunday for a Test and T20I series. After their landmark Test series win in Pakistan, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto hopes that his team would continue the good work against India as well.
Bangladesh will play two Test matches and three T20Is against a formidable Indian team.
The Bangladesh squad landed in Chennai, the venue for the opening Test beginning on September 19, on Sunday afternoon.
"It's definitely going to be a very challenging series for us," Shanto was quoted as saying at the pre-departure media briefing at the Dhaka airport.
"After a good series (vs Pakistan), there is definitely extra confidence in the team, in the people of the country... Every series is an opportunity.
"We will play to win both matches (Tests). The things that matter to win, the process matters... Our aim will be to do the work properly. Good results are possible if we do our job properly," the Bangladesh skipper added.
While India are on top of the World Test Championship (WTC) table, Shanto believes that it will all boil down to how they perform during those five days and the result can come even in the last session.
"They are well ahead of us in the rankings. But we did play well recently. We want to play well for five days, that's our goal.
"We want to get the result in the last session of the Test match. At that time, the match can go in any direction. It is an opportunity (to get our first win in India).
"We will play with a win in mind. But we don't want to think too far ahead. We want to do well for five days, and play to our strength. That's most important," the skipper said just before boarding the flight to Chennai.
Bangladesh impressed in almost all departments of the game in their series win in Pakistan, but it was their bowling attack, especially the pacers, who caught the eye as they beat the home side by ten wickets and six wickets in the first and second Tests, respectively.
Shanto, however, feels that the Bangladesh spinners — Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz — too will play a very key role against India.
"We are in a good place with our bowling attack, both spin and pace," he said. "Perhaps our pacers are behind them (India) in terms of experience but our spin attack is close to theirs. They can bowl in any conditions. All I can say is that our pacers, spinners and batters will give 100 per cent.
"I think we can make a difference only if we play as a team. It is not just the spinners but the pacers and the batters too. The whole team has to play together."
On the individual front, Shanto hopes to do well as a batter. "My personal goal would be for the team to win. I want to contribute as a batter, for which I have prepared to the best of my ability."
