Australia and New Zealand will be looking to shape up their final squads in the T20I series beginning here at the Sky Stadium on Wednesday, with an eye on this year’s T20 World Cup.
Less than four months remain for the T20 showpiece which begins on June 4 and will be held in the Caribbean and the United States.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, leading in place of the rested Kane Williamson, brushed aside the talk of his team being the “underdogs” against Australia. The left-arm spinner believes the Black Caps will put up a strong resistance in this T20I series.
“We’re used to such a tag and don’t think much about it,” Santner said on Tuesday.
“It’s always a pretty cool time when the Aussies come over. You always want to challenge yourself against the best in the world.”
Australia, fresh from their 2-1 series win over the West Indies, are set to field a full-strength squad. The other two games are in Auckland.
