The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Friday decided to include a reserve day only for the India vs Pakistan Super 4s match in Colombo on Sunday.

In case the match cannot be finished on Sunday, it will continue on Monday, according to an ACC statement.

The decision hasn't gone down too well with the other Boards. The teams feel they have been denied a level playing field because of the "arbitrary decision".

Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusinghe couldn't hide his feelings.

"I haven't seen this kind of thing in another tournament, this changing rules in the middle of the tournament," he said at a news conference in Colombo. "I am sure there is a technical committee that has representations from every participating country.

"They must have decided for some other reason. Yes, it is not ideal. We would love to have an extra day also. Other than that, I don't have much to comment on because they have made a decision."

Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood said he was surprised at the decision.

"It's a little surprise when I first heard... But we don't organise the competition, so there's nothing much we can do about that," Silverwood said.

The PCB, too, is learnt to have agreed to the decision reluctantly.

As decided earlier, the final has a reserve day.

“A reserve day has been incorporated for the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s match between India and Pakistan scheduled to take place on 10th September... in Colombo. If adverse weather suspends play during the Pakistan vs India game, the match will continue on 11th September from the point it was suspended,” the ACC statement said.

The India-Pakistan group league match was abandoned after India's innings because of rain. The big-ticket clash draws a lot of revenue and there has been talk that the ACC bowed to pressure from the broadcasters.

Star Sports, the official broadcaster, however, didn't respond to queries from The Telegraph.

India and Pakistan will thus enjoy an advantage over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the race for the final, considering the grim weather forecast. In case any of the remaining Super Fours matches are abandoned or washed out, both teams will have to share points.

If Sunday's match is spilled over into the reserve day, India will have to play back-to-back matches since they are slated to meet Sri Lanka on Tuesday. This may not be good news for Rohit Sharma's team who are already carrying a few players who are making a comeback from injury.
