Owing to the current Covid-19 situation in the country, Ahmedabad and Calcutta are set to be the two venues for India’s limited-overs home series versus the West Indies scheduled next month.
It has been learnt that such a decision was taken at a meeting of the BCCI tours and fixtures committee on Wednesday. The BCCI had earlier slotted three venues for the three ODIs and as many T20Is. But with the pandemic situation yet to be under control, it feels just two venues would be a safer option.
“Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Board feels it’s safer to have only two venues for the series against the Windies. It would also ease the setting up of bio-bubble facilities.
“The office-bearers will take a call after a few days as to which venue will host the three ODIs and which one will be staging the three T20Is,” said a source. Ahmedabad is likely to host the three ODIs with Eden Gardens getting the T20Is. The Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Eden were, in any case, scheduled to stage the first and final ODIs as per the original fixtures of the series.
