After Rashid Khan, spinner all-rounder and former captain Mohammad Nabi too has extended help to the victims of the catastrophic 6.3-magnitude earthquake that killed thousands in the Herat province of Afghanistan last weekend.
“Nabi has so far donated $45,000 to help the victims. He will be donating even more. So would Rashid,” Afghanistan assistant coach Raees Ahmadzai told The Telegraph on the sidelines of the team’s nets session at the practice facilities of the Ferozeshah Kotla on Monday.
After losing to Bangladesh in their World Cup opener last Saturday, the Afghans will be taking on hosts India at the Kotla on Wednesday.
“In fact, each and every one of us in the team will contribute to help the quake victims,” Ahmadzai, who also runs Nabi’s foundation (Mohammad Nabi Foundation), added.
Leg-spinner Rashid, who also captains Afghanistan in T20I cricket, had announced on X that he would be donating his entire match fees from the ongoing World Cup to help his country in such a crisis.
None of the current Afghanistan squad members have been directly affected by the earthquake.
