Bengal had Karnataka by the scruff of the neck initially on Day II of their key Ranji Trophy clash. But a defiant half-century from Abhinav Manohar (50 batting) helped the hosts put up a resistance as they reached 155/5 at stumps on Thursday in reply to Bengal’s first-innings total of 301.
Bengal, resuming on 249/5, could add only 52 to their overnight total. But quicks Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (2/53) and debutant Rishav Vivek (2/44) played their part to reduce the hosts to 97/5.
Senior quick Ishan Porel had earlier cleaned up Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal.
However, Manohar and Shreyas Gopal (23 batting) ensured Bengal had no further success in the remaining part of the day. They have so far stitched a vital 58 for the sixth wicket, making matters tougher for Bengal bowlers.
Shreyas’ 233
Shreyas Iyer (233) registered his highest first-class score, guiding Mumbai to a mammoth total of 602/4 declared in their first innings against Odisha at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground in Mumbai on Thursday. Shreyas’ innings, coming off just 228 balls, featured 24 boundaries and nine sixes. At stumps on Day II, Odisha were struggling at 146/5.
