Rohit Sharma has been overwhelmed by the response during the victory parade at Marine Drive on Thursday.

“You can make out the excitement, it shows how much it means not just to us but also to the entire nation it means a lot. So I am very happy that we could achieve something for them as well,” said the India captain in a video posted by the BCCI.

“2007 triumph had a different feeling. We started in the afternoon and this is in the evening. I cannot forget 2007 as it was my first World Cup but this is a little more special because I was leading the team so it’s a very proud moment for me. This is going to be mad,” Rohit, who had been a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning side under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, said.

Rohit also revealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting in New Delhi that Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav suggested that he should dance his way to the dais to collect the World Cup trophy in Barbados.

“It was such a big moment for us. We had been waiting for this for so long. The players suggested just don’t walk up to the stage in a usual way and attempt something different,” Rohit said. “It was the idea of Chahal and Kuldeep.”

Modi later asked Kuldeep how he mustered the courage to ask his captain to do such a thing. “But he (Rohit) did not do the way I told him to do,” was Kuldeep’s response.
