West Indies made a steady start in reaching 69/1, bowling Sri Lanka out for a modest 204 before rain forced an early end to Day II of the second Test.
Left-arm spinners Veerasammy Permaul and Jomel Warrican combined for nine Sri Lanka wickets with career-best performances. At stumps on Tuesday, Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite (22) and Nkrumah Bonner (1) were at the crease.
Permaul snared 5/35 to register his first five-wicket haul. Warrican took 4/50, also his career best. The pair ensured they reversed a good Sri Lanka start, which featured a 106-run opening partnership.
Sri Lanka then lost nine wickets for just 98 runs.
Brief scores: Sri Lanka 204 (V. Permaul 5/35, J. Warrican 4/50). West Indies 69/1. Stumps, Day II
