Shaheen Shah Afridi took three wickets in one over as Pakistan beat the West Indies by 10 runs in the second T20I of three-match series, in Karachi on Tuesday.
Chasing Pakistan’s 172/8, the West Indies managed 163. The hosts thus claimed the series having won the first game as well. Afridi snared three wickets in the 17th over of the Windies innings to tilt the game decisively in Pakistan’s favour.
The Windies chase didn’t start well, losing Shai Hope in the third over. But Brandon King kept them in the game with a powerful innings of 67 off 43 balls.
Romario Sheperd made 35 not out off 19 balls towards the end, but it was not enough. Earlier, the Pakistan batsmen did not dominate the West Indies bowling in the second game like they did in the first, but they still managed to put up a decent total on the board. Much of the credit for that would go to vice-captain Shadab Khan, who played a blinder of 28 not out off 12 balls in the death overs.
Pakistan plundered 31 runs off the last two overs.
Three other Pakistani batsmen got decent starts, but could not convert them into bigger knocks. Opener Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed after scoring 38 off 30 balls, first-match hero Haider Ali made 31 off 34 balls while Iftikhar Ahmed got 32 off 19 balls.
Pakistan were going strong in the first 10 overs but lost their way somewhat in the middle before Shadab pulled them up again.
Brief scores:
Pakistan 172/8 in 20 overs (Md Rizwan 38, Shadab Khan 28 n.o.; Odean Smith 2/24). West Indies 163 in 20 overs (Brandon King 67; Shaheen Afridi 3/25, Md Nawaz 2/36). Pakistan won by 10 runs.
