For someone having no experience of coaching in La Liga and yet managing to help his side among the top 10 of the standings, Celta Vigo’s Eduardo Coudet has certainly done a commendable job.

In his maiden season as coach of a La Liga club after being appointed in November 2020, the Argentine’s supervision has taken Celta to eighth in the Spanish league table with 53 points from 37 matches.

Before his arrival, Celta were languishing at 17th, which only underlines the change Coudet has been able to bring in and his efficiency in dealing with the players and sorting out issues.

“It’s a tough call putting your faith in a coach with no La Liga experience,” agreed Coudet, in quotes shared by the La Liga.

“They knew all about my work and my way of thinking. And it’s true to say the club is not completely unknown to me, so I’m really grateful that they have given me this opportunity.

“It was quite a challenge as a coach. But I also felt there was more than enough quality here to move things forward very quickly,” Coudet added.

The good work by Coudet and his team culminated into Celta beating superpowers Barcelona 2-1 in an away encounter on Sunday. The job, though, isn’t over as they need to finish the season on a good note.

The coach, though, is optimistic, based on how his team has performed over the last few months. “From the very beginning, the players believed in the idea and how we are going to carry it out and fortunately, the results have gone in our favour.

“I’m very pleased because like I said, from the very start, my prime objective was to make sure the Celta fans don’t to suffer in the way they have in the previous two campaigns. I can see everyone wants the club to achieve great things and I want to be a part of the process,” 46-year-old Coudet, who has managed clubs across South America since 2015 and guided Racing Club to the Argentine league title in 2019, emphasised.
