Argentina’s Copa America campaign has been all about Lionel Messi so far.

In the process of becoming the highest-capped Argentine international, Messi has scored four goals, including two fine free-kicks for the vault. The best part is he's not done yet. The Barcelona man, who also has five assists in the tournament, will square off with his former teammate Neymar at the Maracana Stadium in Brazil on Sunday. Messi is just one strike away from matching the legendary Pele to become the highest goalscorer ever for a South American country. The Brazilian legend has 77 international goals to his name, and the Argentine needs just one more to equal that tally.

Let's take a look at the records Messi has broken so far:

Most assists in a single Copa tournament

As we already know, the Argentina main man has five assists in six games. That is the highest ever in a single edition of the tournament. Overall, Messi has the highest number of assists in the Copa America with the number pegged at 15 in 34 outings, going way past Carlos Tevez’s tally of six.

Most international appearances for Albiceleste

Lionel Messi is the only player in the history of Argentina to appear in six Copa tournaments, going past Javier Mascherano's tally of five. Messi also went past the Mascherano's tally of playing the highest number of international matches for Argentina (147), and will be playing his 151st match versus the Selecao on Sunday.

More free kicks than CR7

Here's another angle to the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rivalry. This time, it's Messi's turn to enjoy the upper hand. In the quarter-final fixture with Ecuador, Messi made the most of a set-piece to score his 58th free-kick goal, and went past Portugal captain and Juventus main man's tally of 57.
