Apart from Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow was among the very few England batsmen who appeared to be a tad confident against Jasprit Bumrah, who finished with nine wickets in the first Test.
Speaking of the challenges of facing Bumrah, Bairstow, during a select media interaction facilitated by Sony on Tuesday, said: “We know Bumrah has got amazing skills. Even in that first innings (in Trent Bridge), the change from his inswinger to outswinger had a huge effect.
“There are going to be times when bowlers adapt and change their skill-set in some conditions, while they are more suited to other conditions at the same time.”
Bairstow’s approach will depend on the conditions. “We saw during the first Test how conditions changed with overheads and when the floodlights came on. And when it was sunny, conditions changed again. So it’s difficult to say this or that is going to be my approach. I can’t see too much of a change from the last game.”
