Cheteshwar Pujara went through a difficult phase in New Zealand, but he is confident of turning things around in the Ranji Trophy final for Saurashtra.

Bengal quicks are in fine rhythm at present, but Pujara isn’t intimidated at all.

“Well, for me personally, I have a lot of experience playing different bowlers at the international level. So that experience will surely come in handy,” Pujara told The Telegraph from Rajkot.

“The advantage for us is we are playing at home, so we know the conditions very well. The pitch may help the spinners later and if that happens, we’ll have an advantage. Yeah, they (Bengal) do have a good bowling attack, which we are all aware of. But having played the Ranji Trophy for so many years, we’ll have a proper game plan and we hope to execute our skills well.”

Pujara is of the opinion that if possible, the Team India regulars should play the Ranji Trophy knockout stage games.

“Yes, they should be playing. Sometimes you do need to manage a player’s workload as well. But if it is not part of his workload management, then all the players should be playing the big (Ranji Trophy) games which then will boost our domestic cricket.

“The importance of the Ranji Trophy is massive and if you want to become a successful Test player, you have to perform in such games and this is the right platform to do that,” he said.

Considering how Unadkat has been bowling, Pujara feels the left-arm pacer can still make a comeback to the Indian team. “He has been playing the IPL over the last few years and with such performances, I am quite confident that he will come back to the Indian team very soon.

“He has taken so many wickets and is performing consistently in domestic cricket. So he should be getting his opportunities. ”
