East Bengal’s Spanish defender Borja Perez said he is not bothered about the Spanish brigade in Mohun Bagan. “I am not concerned about how many Spaniards are there in Mohun Bagan. I know the Spaniards in my team and nobody else,” Borja said after a closed-door practice session at the SAI complex on Saturday.
Borja will not be a part of season’s first Derby on Sunday since East Bengal haven’t registered him yet. Borja, a vital cog in coach Alejandro Menendez Garcia’s scheme of things, played the two I-League Derbies for East Bengal last season. “Yes we won those two. But Sunday will be a new day, new match,” he said.
East Bengal’s other Spaniard Marti Crespi said he is excited to face Mohun Bagan. “We are looking forward to Sunday’s clash. We will try to log full points. But the fans must remember it’s just a match. Winning or losing are part of the game,” he said. Crespi said Mohun Bagan cannot be taken lightly. “They are a good team and the likes of Joseba Beitia and Salva Chamorro give more teeth to the Bagan attack,” the defender said.
Bagan striker Chamorro said he is eager to score a goal on his Derby debut. “I am eager to score a goal. But for all of us — team’s interest comes first,” Chamorro said.
