Jessica Pegula, the fourth seed, made it to the summit clash defeating top seed Iga Swiatek 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 in the semi-final on Saturday.

Pegula had earlier defeated doubles partner Coco Gauff 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 in an all-American match to advance to the semi-finals for the third straight year.

“I’ve played three sets, tough battles, but like this, honestly, physically it’s really tough,” Rybakina said on court after the match. “It’s so late. I’ve never played this late. Thank you so much. Hopefully, somehow I can recover for tomorrow.”

After more than six hours of rain delays on Thursday and some long matches on Friday backed up the schedule, the third-seeded Rybakina and 10th-seeded Kasatkina started play at 11:27 p.m. They finished 3 hours, 27 minutes later.

Rybakina will face 15th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova of Russia in the semi-finals. Samsonova beat 12th-seeded Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-4, 6-4.

In Toronto, American Tommy Paul ended top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz’s winning streak at 14 matches, beating the 20-year-old Spanish star 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals.

Alcaraz had the shot of the match with a between-the-leg winner in the second set, but couldn’t keep up with Paul in the third. “I played a really good match,” Paul said.
