Top-ranked Iga Swiatek beat 14th-seeded Karolina Muchova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the Canadian Open in a match interrupted by rain for more than six hours.
Coming off her fourth victory of the year last week at home in Warsaw, Swiatek stamped her authority after delays of three hours, 20 minutes after the second set and of two hours and 50 minutes early in the third.
Swiatek set up a quarter-final match against Danielle Collins. The American beat hometown favorite Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 in the final night match.
Fourth-seed Jessica Pegula beat Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-0. Coco Gauff beat ninth-seeded Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-0.
In Toronto, Carlos Alcaraz won 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) against 15th seed Hubert Hurkaczbut.
The Wimbledon champion is keen to maintain his swashbuckling style as he warms up for the US Open starting later this month.
