India’s turnaround in the Boxing Day Test after being annihilated at the Adelaide Oval was anything but a surprise for Australia, said Pat Cummins.
“For any side, once they have had a big loss, you know they are going to come back a little bit harder. Everyone’s incredibly proud when playing at this level, so it was no real surprise that they (India) came out really hard at us,” the fast bowler said during a virtual interaction facilitated by Sony Pictures Sports Network on Wednesday. “They bowled and batted really well, so we need to assess that ahead of the next game.”
Cummins has been able to get the better of Cheteshwar Pujara twice so far in this series, but insisted not having devised any special plan for the India No.3.
“The reality is I don’t really know. I just try and bowl good balls, then it’s his decision whether to play or leave them. Fortunately, it has come off so far pretty early in his innings.
“But there’s nothing that drastically changed. I’ll be lying if I say we’ve got this grand plan that we’ve changed for him,” Cummins remarked.
In spite of Ajinkya Rahane dictating terms, Cummins believes the overall performance of Australia’s bowling group hasn’t really been bad. “To bowl a side out for 300-odd at the MCG, on a really good wicket, and creating so many chances is a big tick. But there are things to work on.”
