Novak Djokovic emerged victorious against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final round of the Australian Open to hold the championship title for the tenth time. The GOAT from Serbia defeated Greece's young contender 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5) to bring home his 22nd Grand Slam title.

Unlike their last encounter in Roland Garros in 2021 Paris Open where Djokovic bounced back from two-sets-to-love and defeated the Greek to emerge victorious, this year was a stark contrast as Tsitsipas got very few chances to establish a similar advantage.

Despite battling a hamstring injury through most of the tournament, Djokovic looked to be in control from the very first set in the match. He easily won the first set.

The second set was intense and dramatic with little separating the two players. However, Djokovic with his consistent and clinical groundstrokes sealed the set from a seasawing tiebreak.

Tsitsipas had earned a break point on Djokovic's serve at 5-4, which was the perfect opportunity for the Greek star to bring home the set. However, Djokovic saved the set point and forced a tie-breaker.

The third set also was a closely fought one with Tsitsipas initially giving away a 0-30 lead. He still looked very much willing to be in the contest and with a winner and an ace, he equalized the set 5-5 leading it to a tiebreak. The tiebreak ended with Djokovic ending the Greek contender's hopes for a maiden Grand Slam title.

The win puts Djokovic at par with Nadal's record of 22 Grand Slam titles and will again bestow Djokovic with the No.1 position in men’s ATP rankings, replacing Carlos Alcaraz.

Meanwhile, Djokovic’s father Srdjan Djokovic was absent from the final match. He was surrounded in controversy after pictures of him with a Russian flag featuring Vladimir Putin went viral. He was absent from the semi-final match as well.
