ATK Mohun Bagan to host zonal semi-finals of AFC Cup

ATK Mohun Bagan will take on the Asean Zone champions in the inter-zonal semi-finals of the AFC Cup, according to the draw on Thursday. The Calcutta club with host a club from either Indonesia, Malaysia or Vietnam here on September 7.

ATK Mohun Bagan finished second in the Indian Super League 2020-21 season. Since Mumbai City won both the League Winners’ Shield and the ISL Trophy, the Mariners got a chance to represent the country at the continental event. After a draw in January, the city outfit were clubbed with Basundhara Kings, Maziya Sports & Recreation Club and Gokulam Kerala in Group D of the AFC Cup.

They will play their inter-zone semi-final at the Salt Lake Stadium, the club announced on Thursday.

The green-and-maroon brigade progressed to the inter-zonal semi-final of the tournament with a 5-2 win over Maziya SC. Coached by Spaniard Juan Ferrando, they finished as winners of Group D with six points, level with Bashundhara Kings, but progressed on account of their superior head-to-head and goal difference.
