Bengal coach Arun Lal will be imposing a fine of Rs 500 on bowlers if they bowl a no-ball even at nets.

Just 9.3 overs were possible on Day III of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy Group A clash versus Delhi at the Eden because of insufficient light. The visitors, who were 192/6 on Tuesday, reached 217 but lost one wicket. They are still trailing by 101 runs.

Delhi could have been in more trouble but for ‘perfect host’ Mukesh Kumar, who had trapped Jonty Sidhu plumb in front only to realise that his front leg had skidded past the line.

The call was a tight one with the television umpire ruling in favour of the batsman.

Lal was furious with Mukesh. “… The fault lies with the bowler. Why is he bowling like this?

“I am now going to have a proper fine system. If you bowl a no-ball in a match, we will kill you… But at nets if you do that, one no-ball means a fine of Rs 500. We’ll donate the (fine) amount to charity.

“Imposing the fine starts from our next nets session. Our team is cursed by this no-ball problem,” Lal fumed.
