Bengaluru FC snapped a winless streak of eight matches with a clinical display to beat SC East Bengal 2-0 in the Indian Super League here on Tuesday. Both strikes for Bengaluru came in the first half through Cleiton Silva (12th minute) and a Debjit Majumder own goal (45th), propelling them to the 6th spot on the points table.
Fowler draws flak
East Bengal coach Robbie Fowler faces a minimum ban of five matches and Rs 6 lakh fine for an alleged racist remark against referees after their match against FC Goa on January 29.
Frustrated after the draw, Fowler had allegedly said the refereeing was either “anti-English or anti-East Bengal”.
“The disciplinary committee will take a decision after hearing Fowler’s version on Wednesday,” an ISL official said.
Odisha FC sacked head coach Stuart Baxter for making an unsavoury comment to criticise a refereeing decision after the team’s loss to Jamshedpur FC.
