Ahmedabad or Calcutta will host the Day-Night Test against England, the BCCI’s apex council decided during its meeting via teleconference on Saturday evening.
The BCCI is determined to host the series versus England at home and will approach the government for necessary permission to create a bio-security bubble.
“Ahmedabad is our first choice since Eden Gardens has already hosted the first-ever Day-Night Test in India, against Bangladesh last November. Calcutta will come into consideration only if it cannot be held in Ahmedabad because of the pandemic or any other reason,” a source told The Telegraph.
BCCI is planning to host all four/five Tests against England at different venues.
Board president Sourav Ganguly, who joined the meeting from Calcutta, had said earlier that they were considering hosting three Tests in Mumbai since the city has three venues — Wankhede, Brabourne and Navi Mumbai.
“Everything depends on the pandemic situation. We are keeping fingers crossed,” the source said.
“There is enough time and we can plan accordingly”.
The BCCI is also planning to start the domestic season from January with the Ranji Trophy. The age-group and women’s meets will be held later.
The members were informed that the itinerary for the series in Australia has been sent to the BCCI for approval and the squad is likely to depart from Dubai after the Indian Premier League.
The quarantine period will remain 14 days for the players and support staff Down Under.
The tour will begin with the limited overs series. India and Australia are scheduled to play four Tests, the first beginning on December 17.
