Ranchi lift Jharkhand state games trophy with 105 medals

Bokaro with 23 medals came in second and West Singhbhum stood third with 16 medals

Vikas Kumar of Bokaro won gold in 57kg freestyle wrestling under men’s category while Lohardaga’s Anmol Oraon aced the 61kg men’s freestyle event. Chandan Kumar of Bokaro excelled in men’s 65kg freestyle event while Ramgarh wrestler Pramod Kumar secured the top position in 74kg category.

Ranchi’s Jagbir Singh won the yellow metal in 77kg freestyle weight category while Sujeet Kumar of Bokaro won gold in 55kg freestyle weight category.

State labour minister Raj Paliwar graced the concluding day as the chief guest. Indian Olympic Association secretary general Rajeev Mehta, Jharkhand Olympic Association chief R.K. Anand, secretary general Madhukant Pathak, CCL chairman-cum-managing director Gopal Singh, ADG (communication and technical services) Rezi Dungdung and Ranchi deputy mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya were also present on the occasion.

Host Ranchi was the undisputed overall champion of the inaugural State Games — with 105 medals, 44 gold, 30 silver and 31 bronze — which ended in Hotwar on Tuesday.

Bokaro with 23 medals — 10 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze — trailed to finish second. West Singhbhum stood third with 16 medals — 8 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze.

The fastest man and woman of the meet were Seraikela-Kharsawan’s G. Vasant Railu Naidu and Bokaro’s Riya Kumari. Naidu clocked 10.84 seconds and Riya 12.21 seconds, in the 100m event. West Singhbhum won the men’s football category by defeating Bokaro (silver) and Ranchi (bronze).

Ranchi picked hockey gold in both men and women categories. East Singhbhum’s Hindu Hansda claimed gold in men’s individual road cycling race while the honour in the women’s section went to Lohardaga’s Neha Toppo.
