X(formerly known as Twitter) is introducing two new tiers for its premium offering, and the company hopes it will bring in additional revenue. X is adding a new Premium+ tier that costs $16 per month (Rs 1,300 in India) and it comes with the “largest reply boost”, besides removing ads from the For You and Following feeds. There is also revenue-sharing access to several creator tools. The second tier is called Basic. Costs $3 per month, the tier doesn’t feature a blue checkmark but allows access to the ability to edit posts and post longer text and videos. In Basic, users receive a “small boost” to their replies.
The new tiers join the standard X Premium tier, which costs $8 per month (Rs 650 per month in India; depending on how you subscribe to it) and gives users a blue checkmark, longer posts, text formatting, encrypted DMs and more. The two new plans are available to purchase only on the web.
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter, there have been several controversial changes, some of which have turned away advertisers. Earlier this month, Reuters reported that the company’s US ad revenue has declined every month since Musk took over, with the latest figures showing a 60 per cent year-over-year decline as of August.
Earlier this month, X began charging users creating new accounts on the web in New Zealand and the Philippines a $1 annual fee to post content. But this is more of a local test and may not get implemented globally.
