Wordle, the popular word game from The New York Times, now has a native app for Meta Quest so that you can play the game in virtual reality. The free app is available for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro.

Wordle VR works like the game does on your phone or computer. You still have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. The mystery word is the same for all players and the game refreshes at midnight local time. If a difference has to be pointed out, it involves playing the game on a floating screen, with yellow and green blocks in the background.

“We’re always looking for unique and creative opportunities to reach audiences with our games,” Jonathan Knight, the general manager of NYT Games, told the Meta Quest blog. “This collaboration reflects our embrace of innovative technologies and exploration of new formats and experiences, like mixed reality, to bring our games to life. Wordle is the perfect choice for this virtual environment, given its simple, user-friendly interface that audiences everywhere have come to love.”

Of course, not many — perhaps a few dozen — will strap on a Quest headset just for a few minutes to play a round of Wordle. But having the app on the Quest homescreen will remind users to try to keep their streak going before they move to a different game, like Asgard’s Wrath 2 or Batman VR game.

Don’t expect a VR version of Connections or Strands, both popular NYT games, anytime soon. “Right now, we are excited and focused on launching the Wordle 2D Panel app for Meta Quest headsets,” the NYT’s Elizabeth MacAulay Young has told The Verge. “There are no current plans for other Games at this time, but we’ll be sure to share updates as we have them.”
