Supermarkets in London are probably running low on strawberries, cream and Pimm’s as Wimbledon is on in full swing. While the annual tennis championship serves up some great matches, you can also enjoy a video game on your phone.

It’s a simple old-school game that everyone can enjoy. BreakPoint — available on iOS, Android as well as online — follows the brick-breaker gaming format. Each game level or “court” contains a stack of bricks that you need to smash through with your serves. The objective is to break all the bricks on your opponent’s side of the court. On breaking certain bricks, a heart (of lifeline) or strawberry drops that you have to gather.

As you progress through the “courts”, the game gets challenging, new types of bricks appear and so do surprise items on the court, like ‘sunglare’ and ‘rain’. In case you break two bricks with one shot, you earn double points when you finish a round without losing a life.

It’s a cute game with some cute animation. But there are bugs, like the moment we found that on hitting the ball at a certain angle, it keeps moving between two walls endlessly, forcing the user to restart the game. As far as controls go, it’s easy and depending on your phone’s touch sampling efficiency, you will get a smooth gameplay. Once we started playing, we couldn’t stop for 30-40 minutes.

BreakPoint is a good way to get children interested in tennis and the Wimbledon championship while for adults it’s about revisiting childhood.
