Microsoft is hosting its annual gala event on October 12 (7.30pm IST). The company’s Surface event is where laptops, hybrid 2-in-1 tablets and desktop computers make an appearance. What can we expect at the event? And will there be a surprise because this marks the tenth anniversary of Microsoft’s first-ever Surface product? Here are three things to expect….

Surface Pro 9

The Surface Pro range has had consistent yearly releases and the Surface Pro 9 was seen in a recently published FCC document, meaning we can safely assume that the device is coming our way. Since the Surface Pro 8 made significant updates over its predecessor, like a larger display, 120Hz refresh rate and Thunderbolt ports, we are not expecting any major changes to the new generation device.

According to WinFuture, it may come with a choice of Intel 12th Generation Core i5 or Core i7 U-series chips, which should result in a performance boost of around 20 per cent. It’s just a question of whether or not the pricing is reasonable.

Surface Laptop 5

Since Microsoft hasn’t refreshed the Surface Laptop since spring 2021, we can expect the Surface Laptop 5. Windows Central and WinFuture claim a Surface Laptop 5 is in the works and the 13.5- and 15-inch portables would ship with 12th Gen Core i5 and i7 processors. But are we also going to get AMD Ryzen-powered variants of the Surface Laptop 5?

Surface Studio 3

This is among the most anticipated products, the all-in-one desktop computer designed for creative professionals. An FCC document from Microsoft describes an “All-in-one Desktop Computer” that is speculated to be a new Surface device and, according to The Verge, leaks of the updated Surface Keyboard and Surface Pen earlier this year heavily suggest that Microsoft is preparing to announce the Surface Studio 3.

The new PC is expected to use the familiar chassis from the first two Studios and the big changes will be made to the internals, upgrading to an 11th-gen Core i7 CPU with Thunderbolt 4 ports. There may be an improved webcam, too, along with Dolby Vision HDR visuals and Dolby Atmos audio.
