Meta Platforms has been constantly adding to its list of new features on Threads, the X (formerly Twitter) competitor. One demand since launch has been for a desktop version of the app. According to The Wall Street Journal, Threads may soon get that feature as early as this week.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is working on adding the feature besides better search earlier this month, and that it would be ready in “the next few weeks”.
Mosseri posted on Threads last week that Meta had been testing “an early version internally for a week or two,” but that it “needs some work” before wide release. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, posted on Threads last week that Meta had been testing “an early version internally for a week or two”, but that it “needs some work” before wide release.
The company found an opportunity to launch Threads when users on X became unhappy with the platform. Threads became the fastest app to reach 100 million downloads, hitting the mark in five days. Though usage has slowed down since launch, Meta continues to roll out new features, including the ability to set post notifications for accounts and view posts in a type of chronological feed.
According to digital data and analytics firm, SimilarWeb, time spent on the Threads app is down about 85 per cent more than a month after its launch but that hasn’t deterred Meta. A web version of Threads can be handy for Meta to promote the service across the Internet by giving it a wider reach and better data collection capabilities.
