If you enjoy something, a common saying goes, it is either illegal, or immoral or fattening. The Lamborghini Huracan is certainly not fattening and some might say it is immoral to produce the amounts of carbon dioxide it does for the amount of utility it provides but the jury is still out on that one. What is a fact, however, is that very soon, to comply with the ever-tightening emission norms that have now come down to specific brands and not an entire fleet produced by an auto conglomerate, Lambo will no longer be able to use the naturally aspirated V10 that powers the Huracan. After one more version it will be the end of the road for both the Huracan and its V10. But not just yet.
The glorious 631hp V10 engine that powers the Tecnica and will be signing out at the end of this year, making way for a hybridised unit in the Huracan successor
Petrol heads still have a chance to grab one of the last Huracans to be out, the Tecnica. And it has just been launched in India. It slots in neatly between two other versions that were rolled out earlier. Below it on the price ladder will be the Huracan Evo, which is meant to be a road car. Above the Tecnica is the STO, which is essentially a track car that has been thinly veiled to make it legal for road use. So, expectedly, the Tecnica borrows from both. It improves on the Evo in terms of gadgetry and equipment but stays shy of the STO. It rides harder than the Evo but not as stiff as the STO. It is, an “everyday” Lambo, according to its maker, whatever they mean by that.
Visually, it takes cues like the carbon fibre ‘Y’s in the front from the Super Trofeo and adds a bit more of carbon fibre to the hood at the windscreen end. The rear end, too, looks quite technical with the two hexagonal exhausts making its intent clear.
Amidships is the naturally aspirated, 5.2-litre, V10 engine producing 631hp of power and 565Nm torque at 6,500 rpm that sits under a clear cover through which you can see it in all its glory. How it and the rest of the car behaves is controlled by a selector that picks between Strada (Street), Sport and Corsa (Track) modes. The Tecnica comes with rear wheel drive and rear wheel steering and can be quite lively (0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds). It has a seven-speed gearbox with paddle shifters only.
Interiors are familiar Lambo with the hexagonal theme continuing there as well.
The Tecnica starts at Rs 4.04 crore ex showroom in India.
