Today will be a big day for Microsoft as the company is expected to bring Windows, AI, and Arm processors together at a special event. And walking in the footsteps of OpenAI and Google, there will be plenty to talk about in terms of generative artificial intelligence.
The big announcement of the day is expected to be around a mew Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Series chips. After falling behind Apple’s MacBooks, Microsoft could be on the way to catch up with the Cupertino HQ-ed company.
Snapdragon X Elite is a high-end computer chip from Qualcomm, based on the Oryon cores developed by Nuvia, which Qualcomm acquired. It may outperform Intel and AMD in many benchmarks. There could also be models with a more affordable Snapdragon X Plus chip.
We may also get to know that Surface Pro 10 may get the first model to use an OLED display rather than an LCD. As for he Surface Laptop 6, it will have smaller bezels and you may also see rounded corners similar to the Surface Laptop Studio.
For Snapdragon X Elite chips, you can look beyond Microsoft. Almost every major manufacturer of Windows PC — like HP, Lenovo, Dell and Asus — has expressed interest in the Snapdragon X platform.
Asus will announce an “AI PC” the same day as Microsoft. And rumour has it that Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge will also be powered by Snapdragon.
