It’s obviously been the year of the Wordle and users are still sharing their results almost every other day on social media. But what have been the toughest Wordle words of 2022?
Gaming site in-a-puzzle attempted to figure out by going through data stored in a Twitter API called WordleStats. What’s that? Almost everyone has been posting their Wordle attempts on Twitter. WordleStats has been collecting that data, and calculating difficulty based on the relative success and failure of each puzzle.
The hardest words for the year — parer, foyer, catch, watch, mummy, cater, coyly, trite, found and tacit. Almost 48 per cent of players failed within the six guesses provided, making ‘parer’ the highest failure rate. The word ‘catch’ seems to be an easy one but 23 per cent players failed to guess it correctly. The word ‘mummy’ is also easy but 18 per cent of players failed because of the triple ‘m’.
A spokesperson for im-a-puzzle.com has told Edinburgh News: “NYTimes includes more obscure words to catch players out, double letters seem to cause many issues for players with half of this list containing double or triple-letter words. Although players hate losing their streaks, it’s these more complex and rare words that challenge players and make the game so addictive as well as give players a sense of achievement and often relief when they guess a word correctly.”
For the word ‘found’, the challenge lies with the number of different words ending in ‘ound’ and the word ‘tacit’ stumped 10 per cent of players, with 30 per cent of players saving their streaks on their sixth guess.
