I am above 50, and computer illiterate and am wondering if I can do anything to change that. I use WhatsApp but that’s about it.
J. Sinha
You use WhatsApp and you have been able to send me this email. So I am guessing that you know how to use a smartphone and maybe a computer. That’s a good start.
If you do not have a computer, buy one, either a laptop or a desktop that suits your budget. With a computer, it is much easier to browse the Internet and use email than with a smartphone, primarily because of the larger screen.
You will also be able to manage your finances better, play games, watch movies and listen to music. Stay in touch with friends and family through Facebook or make video calls with Zoom or Google Meet.
You could, of course, do all of these with a smartphone too, but you will pick up new skills faster using a computer.
One of the best websites to learn new skills to advance your life is https://edu.gcfglobal.org/en.
Open Chrome or any web browser of your choice and search for GCF Global. You will be taken to this website. Click on Technology and go through the short video tutorials. You will become tech-savvy in less than 10 days.
Another good website is https://techboomers.com. Here you can learn to use Facebook, and buy stuff on Amazon, among other things.
This is just to start you off. Once you start learning, you will be able to find things to make you computer literate on your own.
Auto-correct
How do I turn off auto-correct in my Redmi Note 10 Pro mobile phone?
Chiraranjan Banerjee
Auto-correct is a software program that identifies misspelt words and corrects them automatically. Auto-correct works well with basic typing mistakes but leads to hilarious results when things turn complex.
On a Redmi phone, the option to turn it off is buried deep inside. On your phone, go to Settings–Additional settings–Languages and input–Manage keyboards–Settings–Text correction and scroll down to disable auto-correction.
PDF transfer
Is there any way to transfer PDF files from my desktop computer to my Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition reader?
Sarat Chandra Kotal
You should be able email the PDF files to your Kindle device. When you set up your Kindle you are not told the email address of your device. You need to look it up.
Go to the Amazon website and log in. Under Accounts & Lists on the top right, click on Manage Your Content and Devices. Tap the Preferences tab on the top. Scroll down and expand Personal Document Settings. You will see your Kindle device and its email address.
Go further down the page and add the email address from which you will be sending the PDF files. Finally, click on Device Synchronisation (Whispersync Settings) and turn it on. Send the PDF files from the approved email address, and your books on the desktop computer will be transferred to your Kindle.
MacBook video
How do I record a video of my screen on my MacBook Pro?
Anjali Poddar
Press the Command+Shift+5 keys together. You will see a capture bar pop up at the bottom of the screen on your Mac. The first three options from the left are for taking a screenshot of the whole screen, a window, or a selection.
The next two let you record a video of the screen — the entire screen or a selected portion. Click Record to start recording. You’ll see a small record button appear up in the menu bar at the top of your screen. Click to stop the recording.
The Options button lets you select where you would like to save your captured screenshots and videos. Once you select a destination, all future captures will be saved there.
