The Oura Ring started a trend when the tiny health- and sleep-tracking device showed up in 2015. But it took a few years to reach some level of perfection. In 2023, the wearable ring is everywhere. Depending on how much you spend, these wearable rings can analyse several health metrics, including your heart-rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen rate, body temperature, and sleep duration. It can even offer insight into hormonal factors that may affect your sleep. Don’t think of it as a substitute for, say, Apple Watch. It’s a tool meant to tackle certain functions more effectively. Let’s look at a few options beyond the Oura Ring. After all, DataHorizzon Research reports that the $147.1 million smart ring market in 2022 is expected to reach $1,405.1 million by 2032. Tech industry rumour has it that Samsung is looking at options in the category.

Founded in 2021, RingConn is giving Oura stiff competition. The unique point here is that you don’t need to spend on subscriptions, like on the Oura Ring. Yes, most of these wearable rings come with a monthly subscription beyond the actual cost of the product. RingConn’s product comes in Moonlit Silver, Midnight Black, and Pale Gold, with a titanium build and a matte finish. More importantly, there is one-week battery life and a portable charging case that can keep your ring powered for up to 150 days. Behind the product is Guoxing Wang’s team and they are careful with the design. The bones in our fingers aren’t exactly circular so the ring’s shell captures that element and offers a good fit.

Amazfit Helio Ring

Amazfit is a good company for trackers and inexpensive smartwatches. The Helio Ring is a lightweight titanium ring, weighing a mere 3.8 grams and it’s particularly helpful if you also use an Amazfit smartwatch (not a must). A watch will be helpful in measuring activities and tracking your exercise through GPS while the ring is best for sleep and resting modes. Together, it’s a great combination.

Movano Evie Ring

It is one of the few tech gadgets that has been designed keeping women in mind (men can use it too). Look at the design: There is an open gap in the ring to accommodate swelling of the finger as a result of hormonal changes. According to Movano, its ring has an estimated battery life of roughly four days and the case holds up to 10 full charges. There is a companion app that records period tracking and mood logging, which will eventually power AI-based insights based on correlations between menstrual health, hormones, energy, sleep and activity.

Ultrahuman Ring Air

Like Oura, it can track sleep and movement to offer insights and tips using the app on your smartphone. You can wear the titanium ring on your index finger or any of the other digits as long as it is not on thumbs and pinkies. The ring looks good and the sensors are packed around the inside. You will find an infrared photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor, a noncontact medical-grade skin temperature sensor, a six-axis motion sensor and LEDs for heart rate monitoring and blood oxygen saturation.

Circular Ring Slim

It is 2.2mm thick and weighs only 2g despite the matte black titanium shell. There are things like a three-axis accelerometer, a surface temperature sensor, and PPG sensors to capture health metrics like heart and respiratory rates, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate variability. You can get around six days out of the battery.
