The Apple Watch has changed the way smartwatches are perceived. Before its arrival, the smartwatch was more of a tech device rather than a wellness option or a fashion accessory. From Xiaomi to Realme, most smartphone brands are now coming up with smartwatches but what about an option from a company that we tend to recognise for lighting solutions. Syska too has an offering called SW100.
Not as fancy as a Samsung Galaxy smartwatch but Syska SW100 packs in some of the basic things one looks for in a smartwatch. There is no SpO2 monitoring or an ECG function, yet it handles well the few things it promises, like step monitoring, heart rate monitoring, a few workouts and so on.
To get the maximum out of the watch, you will need to pair it with the Syska Fit app. Unlike other smartwatches, on the SW100 only a part of the screen responds to touch; it’s a completely different interface than what you will find on other devices. Pressing the circular icon on the screen allows the user to move from one option to another and a long press brings up choices under any particular option.

Be it step monitoring or heart rate monitoring, the reading is roughly what I got on the Mi Smart Band 4. In way of workouts, there is a selection available on the app. Instead of making it as exhaustive as, say, on an Amazfit smartwatch, it offers options that are often used, like indoor/outdoor walking/running, yoga, hiking and so on. Resistant to splashes, the watch is comfortable on the wrist and its curved design helps.
Customisation comes in the way of the watch band (you can buy from the company’s website) as well as watch face. There are few options on the watch as well as the ability to take a photo and set it as wallpaper. The charging method is old-fashioned and it does take quite some time to fuel up but then you can use the smartwatch easily for 10 days without any worry. As far as notifications are concerned, you can adjust settings on the app.
There is a sizable crowd that’s looking for an inexpensive smartwatch which offers a few basic things we always need. With SpO2 or ECG reading on some watches, there is little you can achieve because these readings need to be interpreted by doctors. But do ask yourself whether you are happy getting a watch beyond the ecosystem provided by your smartphone brand. For its pricing, Syska SW100 (Rs 2,499) is packed with enough tech offerings.
