In an unprecedented move, Sony will pull the plug on its shooter game Concord just two weeks after its release. Released on August 23 for PC and PlayStation 5, the game will begin to go offline on September 6. The game was developed over eight years by Bellevue, Washington-based Firewalk Studios.
“While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognise that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn't land the way we'd intended," Concord game director Ryan Ellis wrote in the blog post.
The post isn’t clear whether there would be a rerelease of the game. “While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC,” Ellis said.
According to industry rumours, anything between $100 million to $200 million was spent on the game, which is the amount spent on some of Sony’s big-budget first-party games.
According to website SteamDB, which tracks the number of people playing games on the PC platform, Concord's highest number of concurrent users was 660. Now compare that to Counter-Strike 2, which has consistently recorded more than one million players since August 2022.
