I conduct virtual classes on Google Meet using my Android phone. Is there a way I can extract students’ attendance from the phone version of Google Meet?

Attendance tracking is available only in the paid versions of Google Workspace when you use Google Meet on the phone or desktop.

However, there is a way you can track attendance for free if you use your PC or laptop to conduct classes. Download the Google Meet Attendance Chrome extension from https://bit.ly/3v4z1GT.

When you begin on Google Meet, you can enter a list of expected invitees and the extension will automatically detect who joined the call and how long they stayed. The list is also saved on your computer.

If you use the desktop version of Chrome on your mobile, you should be able to use this extension too after you have added it to Chrome from a computer. To do this, tap on the three vertical dots on the top right of your phone’s Chrome browser and select Desktop site. I find this process quite inconvenient, but you could try it out.

Email and Apple

I want to change the Apple ID and SIM card on my iPhone 7, but it does not accept my new email address as a valid Apple ID.

First, reset the phone before changing the Apple ID and the SIM card. Go to Settings–Reset–Erase All Content and Settings. Then insert the SIM card and follow the wizard on the screen. After this, register your email address as an Apple ID. You will be asked to create an Apple ID in the wizard. Create it with your email address and it will be accepted.

Remember to update the software once your phone is up and running. For this, go to Settings–General–Software Update. Do this over WiFi.

Dialogue box problem

Whenever I open a Word file, a dialogue box tells me, ‘The command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open…’

Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to your local disk, C:. In the View menu, put a checkmark next to Hidden items. Scroll down to the Users folder. Open it, and look for your user folder. Inside this, open the AppData folder. Then go to Roaming–Microsoft.

Open the Templates folder and delete the Normal.dotm file. Now, close all your windows. Next time you open a Word document, you will not get any more messages.

Unable to sync

I can’t sync my Realme 5 phone with my Google Account. I have about 3GB of internal storage space. I have cleared Google Play Services cache data. Nothing has helped so far.

First, please check if you can log in to your Google account from the browser. Go to https://myaccount.google.com. In the left pane, click on Security and scroll down the page till you find “Your devices”. Your phone should be listed here.

Next, on the phone go to Settings–Google–Mobile data and messaging–Data management. Tap on “Update Drive-enabled app files”. Choose “Over WiFi or Cellular”.

If your phone still does not sync, open the phone’s Settings app and navigate to Date and Time. In some phones, this option is under “General management”.

Turn off “Automatic date and time”. If you can, turn off “Automatic time zone” although this may not be possible on all phones.

Deliberately change the date and time to something completely wrong. Go back to your Home screen. Once again, open the Date and time options, and manually change them so that both are correct again. Turn on “Automatic date and time” and “Automatic time zone”. Your phone should sync now.
