Skoda Auto has rolled out its under-4-metre SUV, Kylaq, in a head-to-head competition with vehicles like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. This marks the entry of the brand in this hot-seller segment. This SUV, like the Kushaq and Slavia in Skoda’s line-up, is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform and was developed jointly in India and the Czech Republic.
Skoda says the Kylaq will come in four trim variants — Classic, Signature, Signature+ and Prestige. Prices will range from ₹7.89 lakh for the Classic trim with a manual transmission to ₹14.40 lakh for the top-of-the-line Kylaq Prestige with automatic transmission, both prices at the showroom. While the manual transmission variants cost between ₹7.89 lakh and ₹13.35 lakh, the automatics range from ₹10.59 lakh to ₹14.40 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Bookings opened yesterday, but deliveries will begin on January 27.
Petr Janeba, brand director, Škoda Auto India, said: “This SUV comes with global design cues, unmatched driving dynamics, uncompromising safety, a host of features, spacious and functional interior which is matched by value pricing across the range. We are confident that Kylaq will further our goal of entering newer markets, bringing new customers into the Škoda family and strengthening our brand presence in India.”
To sweeten the deal and give the Kylaq an initial push, Skoda is offering its first 33,333 customers a complimentary three-year Standard Maintenance Package. In addition, the Kylaq also offers a three-year/100,000km whichever is earlier, standard warranty. Along with this, it also offers six-year anti-corrosion warranty as standard across the range.
The Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 85kW of power and 178Nm of torque, with the option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic, four trim variants and seven colour options. It has over 25 standard safety features in all variants, including six airbags and several active and passive safety features.
Safety features in the entry-level Classic variant include six airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, tilt and reach adjustment for the steering wheel, head restraints and three-point seat belts for all five seats, electric mirrors, rear park distance control, driver’s dead pedal, automatic speed-sensitive central locking, and full LED lighting as standard.
