After a long stretch of slim pickings, the last few years have proved fruitful for Android smartwatches, especially the ones from Samsung, which works closely with the Google OS team.
At its Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung introduced Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, which are the first Android smartwatches powered by Wear OS 5, the most powerful release from Wear OS yet. Further, Samsung is trying to take competition to Apple’s Watch Ultra 2 with the launch of Galaxy Ultra.
Which one is for you? The answer is simple — if you want a lifestyle-focussed smartwatch, Galaxy Watch7 is an easy choice but if you are looking for a device that a fitness enthusiast would like to have, go for Samsung Galaxy Ultra.
Everyday wellness....
For regular use, you need a smartwatch that offers insights into every aspect of your health. Galaxy Watch7 can accurately track over 100 workouts and build routines by combining various exercises with Workout Routine to achieve your goals.
There are a few interesting features. With Race, compare current and past performance in real-time to track progress and maintain motivation. In case you need a fitness snapshot, Body Composition can offer a comprehensive understanding of your body.
Where the new smartwatches can win customers is through the De Novo FDA-authorised Sleep Apnea feature that offers a proactive tool to check potential signs of sleep apnea. Users will get real-time readings and alerts for abnormally high or low heart rates with heart rate monitoring, detect irregular heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib) with IHRN (Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification), and get a deeper understanding of your heart health with Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring.
All these health-monitoring features are coming thanks to the innovative hardware on Galaxy Watch7. An enhanced BioActive Sensor offers increased accuracy, empowering you to better understand yourself with comprehensive readings. For the first time, Galaxy Watch7 allows you to track advanced glycation end products (AGEs) right from your wrist with an AGEs Index. Influenced by diet and lifestyle, AGEs reflect your overall biological ageing process and provide an indication of metabolic health.
The watch is powered by a 3nm processor that offers a three times faster CPU and 30 per cent improved power efficiency of the application processor. Further, Galaxy Watch7 is the first Galaxy smartwatch to feature a Dual-frequency GPS system, which can more precisely track location even in dense urban environments.
Fit, fitter, fittest
Galaxy Watch Ultra is a new addition to the portfolio that comes with a titanium grade four frame and 10ATM water resistance. It also operates at a wider range of altitudes, from 500 metres below sea level to 9,000 metres high for tracking advanced fitness experiences.
Besides multi-course workouts for a triathlon, there’s a new Functional Threshold Power (FTP) for cycling; it accurately measures maximum cycling power in just four minutes with AI-powered FTP metrics to unlock full potential based on indicators unique to you.
If that’s not enough, it offers up to 100 hours in Power Saving and 48 hours in Exercise Power Saving.
Galaxy Watch Ultra will be available in a 47mm size in Titanium Grey, Titanium White and Titanium Silver.
