As technology becomes more “nano”, we will see more gadgets that tackle particular aspects of one’s health. Samsung is diving into a new wearable category called smart rings, which has been shining since the pandemic days made us understand that we should be more concerned about our well-being. The Samsung Galaxy Ring is a wearable computer with tiny sensors that offers a number of insights into our health. It’s small, light and practical. Besides, it can be a companion of the Galaxy smartwatch as well as work in isolation.
It’s a tiny health-monitoring device worn on a finger as if it were a piece of jewellery. Weighing between 2.3g and 3g (depending on the finger size), the Galaxy Ring offers the unique ability to measure minute health changes.
The lifestyle factor
The device first made a splashy unveiling during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose but now it’s ready for the market. Smart rings are already favoured among the swish set, wrapping around the finger of Prince Harry, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston in the past. It’s Samsung’s turn to give the wearable device mainstream popularity.
Samsung Galaxy Ring and any Galaxy Watch can be worn together because the Health App gathers data from both devices.
Unobtrusive and small, the form factor takes advantage of the titanium grade five finish to go with your wardrobe (comes in Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold). There is a sizing kit that helps users find the right fit from nine size options. We tried it and the comfort level is top-notch.
If Samsung plays the market right, the Galaxy Ring has the look to become a bestseller next Valentine’s Day.
Health benefits
You will buy it for the health benefits that the Samsung device offers. Here’s the deal: There are people who don’t like the concept of the smartwatch but they may prefer something like the Galaxy Ring to record health metrics. And then there are those who would like to wear both a Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Ring to get access to more health metrics.
All data from the Galaxy Ring — comes with 10ATM water resistance — gets integrated into Samsung Health app. Even all the metrics from the Samsung Watch are found in this app.
While going to bed you can wear either of the smart devices to record sleep patterns but it’s always easier to wear the Ring which is more comfortable. It uses a sleep AI algorithm to make sense of the data and offer you sleep patterns.
Along with Sleep Score and snoring analysis, new sleep metrics such as movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart and respiratory rate provide a detailed and accurate analysis of sleep quality. There is also Cycle Tracking that track your menstrual cycle through overnight skin temperature monitoring.
The sensors in the Ring are worth looking at: Given the sleek feature of the device, it’s a wonder to see the number of sensors that get packed in.
It helps you wake up refreshed
Having more sleep data on hand will help plan better for the night and that means waking up refreshed. It starts with Galaxy AI, which generates a detailed health report that includes various health metrics. New Energy Score, a Galaxy AI-enabled feature, enhances your awareness of the ways your health influences your daily life. The score is calculated by analysing your physical and mental conditions across four significant factors: Sleep, Activity, Sleeping Heart Rate and Sleeping Heart Rate Variability.
The device also helps with broader health monitoring, like Heart Rate Alert (unusually high or low heart rates). You can access additional details about your heart rate including beats per minute, time start and time duration with Live Heart Rate Check.
The Galaxy Ring is light and the battery is capable of lasting a few days.
Beyond health, you can use the Galaxy Ring to trigger the photo app on your phone or dismiss your alarm on Galaxy smartphones with a double pinch via Gestures. In case you misplace the Ring, you can locate it using your Galaxy smartphone with Find My Ring on Samsung Find.
Also remember…
Some aspects of the Galaxy Ring are interesting. The ring’s battery can last up to seven days and it comes with a beautiful-looking charging case. That longer charge means the ring can stay on your body longer, which then enables it to collect more data about you over time, including detailed information about your heart rate and sleep. The user will also like the way the Health App can visualise data for sleep. Finally, the app offers advice on how to get a better night’s slumber.
When using the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Ring together, there is a chance you will save battery life because the Samsung Health App will know where to draw overlapping metrics from.
